Artists‘ Book Project
As Stephen
Bury mentioned, 'Artists' books are books or book-like objects over the final
appearance of which an artist has had a high degree of control; where the book
is intended as a work of art in itself.' In this project, I try to do an
artwork rather than just a book to express the concept of safety. The cover of the book is consists of
hundreds of needles connected with red string, which seems very dangerous, but
for the book, it is an effective way to protect itself and avoid viewers to
touch and read the content. In
fact, it can be read if viewers open it with great care. To some extent, this kind of great care
of touch and flip, for the book itself, is a self-defence, but for viewers, is
a self-protection. The contradiction
between them creates the feeling of safety from different perspectives. Turning to the content of the book,
there is some of my material practice towards different ‘personalities’ of the
object. Like people, the reason of
having some different personalities is to protect themselves, the object have
the right to project themselves.
So try to use some materials to create different possibilities of the
shape, and to some extent that is the expression of different ‘personalities’.
